Astronaut Without a Space Program

They won’t let me lift off
Because we’re running out of money
They just spend it all on the military
To protect us from this made-up threat

Well I’m sick of being the government’s pet
I’m not gonna let them control me
I’m gonna find what lies beyond the sea
You can call me the real threat

I’ll expose the government’s lies
Discover the real reason why
They won’t let us fly
Maybe that will get them high

Why is there no space program?
I won’t take part in your filthy scam
The suburban sea I’ve already swam
I have nowhere else to scram

Time to explore the final frontier
Time to face our final fear
This could be our final year
Just send me to a place far from here

I seek the truth
They tried to protect me from
One day the truth will come
Then the universe will open up
The skies will lift us all up
From this land trying to crash us down
Maybe then I will lift up this frown.

Three Doors (Only One Leads to You)

I hold the key to three doors
But I can only open one
Which one shall I choose?
They all look hard to refuse

One door is green
The door to the right is red
And the door to the left is blue

                                        I have three keys

But only one leads to you

I have no idea what lies behind each door
I don’t even know what this is all for
I’ve held these keys my whole life
But they’ve always been in a constant strife

That’s why I need to get rid of two
So that one will get me to you
And I don’t have to fall in the deep blue yonder
Or lose more sleep to the dark and desolate ponder

Which key shall I choose?
                        There’s no more time
To press snooze
                        Nothing more to reuse
                        That’s why I must choose
                        There’s no more time
                        I can afford to lose

What key will I use?
                                        Whatever one opens me up
to you.

Keep the Monkey in the Barrel

The world is ever changing
And so am I
It gets crazier
So do I
Why run
When you can fly?

We’re flying so high
We’re doomed to crash
Not a time to be rash
Unless you want to die

Darwin said only the fittest survive
But maybe only the fittest thrive
While the rest just live in tireless peril
The fit keep the monkey in the barrel

We’re ever evolving
We find more problems
To never stop solving
One day we’ll blossom
Oh that day will be awesome

The world ain’t a beautiful place
Because so many get caught in the ugly race
The only way to be leader of the pack
Is to run off the beaten track

Don’t forget your monkey roots
While you lace up your crocodile boots
Stomp those monkey thoughts out
And show them what the human race is all about.

Brave New Soul

Shifting out of neutral

Into the future

Took a while to switch gears

Time to forget about all the lost years

To the fast lane now

Passed the past a long time ago

Can’t see in the rear window anymore

Might be a brave new world ahead

But I’m a brave new soul

And I don’t want to dig another hole

I just want to fill another bowl

They say the future might be a scary place

But how could it get any scarier than this

For I only see potential bliss

And blissful nights with a potential miss

Won’t you come away with me

Let’s sail away from this suburban sea

Uncharted waters lie ahead

If you’re not brave

You might need to smash your head

Sail into the future

Bail out the past

What a world it will be

Put your shades on

And you will see

Whether we’re sailing seas

Or sailing the streets

It shall be easier to sail

With this brave new soul

Stubborn Law of Gravity

What goes up
Must come down
A painful lesson learned when I was ten
Life hasn’t been the same since then

Why must the world constrain me?
If you shoot for the stars
You’ll end up behind bars

I strive to be free
But I’m bounded by this sea
I can swim but I can’t fly
All I want to know is why?

Am I doomed to fail?
Is my ship too big to sail?
If only I were a whale
Then I wouldn’t have to wait on the mail

Let your mind wander
And your doubts just grow fonder
Shut off your mind
No doubt you’ll go blind

The world is full of contradictions
Might be time to refill your prescription
Here’s my bold prediction
Life doesn’t have a description

I’m struggling to find a perfect rhyme
In a world might running out of time
The only thing grounding me
Is the stubborn law of gravity.

The Poison is the Remedy

Yeah the light struck me

But why can’t it strike you

Life is but a tree

And inside is the glue

Darkness haunts me

But what is haunting you?

You tell me to give it up

But it’s only building me up

You say I can’t get much higher

Now who’s the liar?

Just how high can I climb?

This ladder leads nowhere

So I don’t really know

It’s my day or reckoning

And I’m not afraid of the big show

Ghosts are still haunting

Monsters still flaunting

Being the captain of my own ship

I tell these ghouls to take their own trip

They tell me its poison

They don’t know what’s right for me

It’s time to set this anchor free

Because the poison is the remedy

Burn Down this Mast

I’m passing the past by

I float closer and closer

To the future I have longed for

But the present is a rocky shore

Life throws me a rock

And I throw it into the ocean

I leave the gun cocked

And take a sip of the potion

Wind changes direction once again

I adjust the sails

And take a closer look at the map

With X marked on the bright island

Surely this time I will find it

My ship could not get more dimly lit

I’ll do anything to find the lighthouse

That leads me to a smoother shore

Than the one I was on before

I won’t forget the way in which I came

But now we have to be brave

It’s time to sink the past

Burn down this mast

Let loose and have a blast

In the Shadow of a Broken Light

It’s like the world is being lit

By a broken light

Perhaps there’s a missing bit

Because it just isn’t that bright

Only one thing on my mind

How could people be so blind

Just think of a world

Where everyone shined

It would be so much brighter

The pressure would be so much lighter

We could finally breathe

Not thin air, but light

So what if the world isn’t bright

It’s not too late to make things right

Imagine a world full of bright eyes

Instead of a hell full of dark spies

I stand here in the shadow of a broken light

And this shadow is cast long

It takes darkness to show what’s wrong

But it takes brightness to make us strong.

Bright Lies, Dark Truths

The world is blinded by white lies

At the end of this bright tunnel

We shall crash into the dark truth

And set fire to the sleuth

We wouldn’t need detectives

If everyone told the dark truth

We could know everyone’s objectives

And not have to lie to our malleable youth

If only someone told the dark truth

The truth may hurt

But a lie can destroy

And life isn’t a toy

To be covered in dirt

Let’s get rid of these ghosts haunting our dreams

Remember kids, life isn’t what it seems

Don’t listen to their bright white lies

Life is meant to be seen with your own eyes

Don't Like My Status (Like I Need Your Like Anyway)

Your statuses get more likes than me

You have 3 times as many friends

But you talk to only a tenth of them

And you wouldn’t be seen with half of ‘em

You might think you’re the brightest star in the sky

But babe we’re floating in the sea

So get your head out of the clouds

And stop acting all proud

Don’t like my status bitch

Like I need your like anyway

In this season of the witch

It’s your time to pray

I’ll be watching you

Watching me save the day

I hope you do make it to the sky one day

Then you’ll be revolving around me

And we’ll both see life is more than a tree

And everyone will be living off my rays

Oh that would be the day

Like I need your like anyway

So don’t like my status today

In the end it’s you who will pay.

What Lies in the Valley Door

I’m sick of this country

                        We’re sick of you

I don’t belong here

                        We don’t want you here

Where will I go

                        Someplace far, far away

Perhaps a valley that lies between two monstrous peaks

What will I do in this valley?

There are millions of bewildered souls residing here

Living in their final frontier

From a peak on either side

Dreams of the people would collide

One lightless January moon

All I could hear was a yearning wolf’s croon

The souls were being driven to the mighty Devil’s peak

They were just grey silhouettes floating and they couldn’t speak

Somewhere in the valley floor

Lied a luring but hidden door

Only the strongest souls will be able to find it

The weak will be purged from the valley and cast into the Devil’s pit

Several days past as I waited outside the secret door

Waiting for a few souls to find this discrete area of the valley floor

A several hundred years more flew by and no souls ever came

My ravaged heart was lit by a lonely flame

Waiting another second outside this door wasn’t even a choice

My shaky hand turned the knob and I was guided by a mystifying voice

Being the only worthy soul, I deemed myself the door master

One day, I peered through the key hole and saw a traumatic disaster

The estranged souls were being swallowed by a chaotic panic

The sight was so painfully tragic

I sent signs and directions to the hidden door for the fading souls

They kept slipping into deeper and deeper holes

They will never find this godforsaken door; suddenly I hear a powerful knock

The hampering sound places me in a weary state of shock

I anxiously open the door; only to find the Devil standing on the lonely porch

Satan offered me a very attractive deal to join the growing torch

He offered green things, gold things, and luxurious diamond rings

The only thing I wanted was the kindred spirits of worthy human beings

The light from the burning souls shined through the Devil’s eye

Maybe saving them was worth one more try

I cut off the Devil’s outstretched hand and drowned spirits flow out upon waves of happiness

I decide to take just two of the disemboweled spirits and cast them into another mystical valley

A lush valley full of temptation and great things in store

Just how long will I have to wait for a knock on this overtly hidden door?

Sun Rises, Sun Falls

At sunrise, I peel the blinds and open my window

As the sun falls, I let the dark eat me as I plunge into my pillow

I’ve learned to accept darkness and brightness living in harmony

Sometimes I’m sad, sometimes I’m happy

Half the world bathes in sunlight, the other half drowns in moonlight

As for me, I surrender to the hazy twilight

There’s an angel on my right shoulder

And a devil on my left

But I only listen to the guy in between

So my day of reckoning has arrived

And my inner-peace has survived

Knowing the sun will rise

As fast as it will demise.

The Road to Happy Valley

The road to Happy Valley
Is paved with blood, sweat, and tears
Why has it taken so many years
To figure it out

The road might be filled with scum
But it’s you who’s being the bum
It’s time to change lanes and speed up
Without ever looking back

Don’t pay attention to the billboards
They’re just trying to sell you something
You are not

Just look for the exit to Happy Valley
It will be hard to miss
Considering it’s so bright
How could you not see the light?

Don’t be afraid to exceed the speed limit
If you get there faster
Just beware of the fact
That they might try to slow you down

The road to Happy Valley
Is not a direct route
There will be plenty of detours
En route to this blissful destination
But once you get here
There will be a grandiose celebration.

I'm Not an Extra

I’m not an extra

I’m your leading man

I’m not a poser

People copy my poses

I don’t revolve around the sun

It revolves around me

I give it the energy to shine

And it shines upon my face

Join me in this garden of ecstasy

Never have I found a place freer

I prayed for the light

And now I’m a believer

Demons don’t possess me

I possess them

They tell me what to do

But I don’t listen

When it comes to taking direction

I forge my own path

So don’t call me an extra

Because I’m your leading man

Zentennial, Colorado

This is such a peaceful town

In this suburban sea I shall drown

This is the place where I belong

Try and prove me wrong

Here in Zentennial

I never feel down

It’s such a peaceful town

Just go ahead and drown

My Head is Super Heavy

My head is super heavy

And you can’t touch me

You can’t bring me down

Go ahead and try,

But it’s you who will crash and burn

It’s you who will fall so far

And I’m gonna be a shining star

I got no doubts no more

My head might be super heavy

But it’s only making me stronger

It’s inspiring this poetry

Don’t you see?

I get so high

Knowing you’ll fall so low.

It's Not Black & White

The world isn’t black and white

It’s gold and red

Some shall perish into a bloody red

Others will discover mounds of gold

While some are going out and making that bread

Others are sitting around collecting a dusty mold

So don’t go telling me the world is black and white

Because if you can’t see the true colors

Then you can’t see the light

Oh wait and there’s a third color too

It’s the color of the sky… blue

And it’s limited to an elite few

So the world isn’t black and white

It’s blue, gold, and red

If you can’t accept that

Then you might as well be dead.

You Think Your Life is Bland (It's Awaiting in a Spice Rack)

You think your life is bland

Imagine if you couldn’t taste

You think your life is all planned

Imagine if it was all a waste

The air is getting harder to breathe

Through this peerless haze I can no longer see

Forget about swimming in the scum filled streets

It’s all getting drowned out by the monster beats

This whole thing is just a system

And we let ourselves get controlled

Sometimes I wish they would just listen

So we could get rid of this mold

You’ve got to sculpt your own mold

So you don’t get bowled

Over by the bureaucracy that’s devising the best way

To make them the most gold

Your life is awaiting in the spice rack

That you got to dust off lying in your cluttered mind

All you’ve got to do is pull out the thyme

To find a life that will be so sublime
